Edmond businesses hope tax rebate checks will be spent locally
Many Edmond businesses feel very positive about the rebate campaign launched in July by Mayor Naifeh. The mayor asked all Edmond residents receiving a $300 or more in rebates from the federal government to spend the money in the city to help boost the local economy. The Edmond Economic Development Authority, which also endorsed the local campaign, estimates that 61 percent of Edmond households will receive the maximum rebate of $600, which was promised to married couples. About 13 percent of Edmond households were expected to receive an average of half the maximum rebates. If those households spend their money in Edmond, it could mean a $9 million immediate impact in sales tax revenue for the city. Courtesy of The Edmond Sun, September 4, 2001.
