Edmond’s new frontiers
For years, Edmond's population has sprouted as more and more people want to take advantage of the area's schools and quality of life. Edmond's population almost doubled in the last 20 years to 68,315 in 2000. Between 1980 and 2000, Edmond accounted for 8 percent of the state's population growth. The city's population is expected to reach 88,800 by 2010, according to U.S. Census data. The home-building industry has been Edmond's biggest industry for the last several years, according to Janet Yowell, interim director of the Edmond Economic Development Authority. Citizens Bank announces promotions
Citizens Bank of Edmond recently announced two promotions and four additions to the bank. Assistant Vice President Sherry Poulson was promoted to branch manager of the University of Central Oklahoma branch and Eric Richardson was recently promoted to assistant vice president. Edmond physicians open skin care clinic
Physicians Gina Ressler and Joan Hardt have opened the Signature Skin Care skin rejuvenation clinic in Edmond's Le Cour Office Park, 1300 E. Ninth St. In addition to gourmet espresso, the clinic specializes in microdermabrasion, laser hair removal, photorejuvenation using intense pulsed light, wrinkle reduction, and vein care. Francis Tuttle seminars planned
The Francis Tuttle Commerce Development Center, in partnership with the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce and the Edmond Economic Development Authority, will host a seminar and lunch noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Francis Tuttle campus, 12777 N. Rockwell. Speaker Gary Saunders will speak about “Effective Use of Intranets and Extranets.”
A second lunch seminar “The Great Equalizer – The Internet and Your Business” by Charles Anderson of Sprint Broadband Direct will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce building on the southeast corner of the University of Central Oklahoma campus. Edmond builder constructs “move up” community
Edmond builder Bill Roberts believes in Old World craftsmanship, exquisite appointments and modern technology. He and partner Corbin Roberts are constructing homes in the Providence addition. Providence is located on Edmond Road between Pennsylvania and Western in the Edmond School District. Roberts is no stranger to building in Edmond. New Edmond Subway serving up breakfast
The Subway at Danforth and Kelly is opening its doors early in the morning and serving breakfast. Owners Debra and Dale Odom opened this location in June. The Odoms, Edmond residents for 11 years, also have Subway franchises at 33rd and Boulevard in Edmond, Shepherd Mall, Enid and Western and Memorial, Debra Odom said. New Vision ranks #10 in Metro 50
Edmond-based New Vision Consulting Group, Inc., a leader in Edmond's high-tech arena, was recently ranked 10th on a list of 50 of the metro's fastest growing companies by Oklahoma Business Monthly. The 2001 Metro 50 rankings reveal New Vision grew 153 percent from 1998 to 2000, with 2000 revenues at more than $1.6 million and a 2000 employee count of 17 from five in 1998. Oklahoma education colleges get good marks
The 12 colleges in Oklahoma that offer education degrees have received good marks from a national assessment company according to Hans Brisch, Higher Education Chancellor. National Evaluation Systems Inc. reported that 2001 Oklahoma education graduates had an average passing rate of 89 percent on tests required by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation. University of Central Oklahoma education graduates passed the Academic Content Area Test with a combined score of 97 percent. UCO students also scored 99 percent on the basic skills test. Construction begins on UCO Wellness Center
Construction of a new Wellness Center at the University of Central Oklahoma officially got under way with a groundbreaking ceremony last Tuesday. The 60,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Wellness Center is projected for completion in December 2002, with the opening expected in January 2003. The two-story structure will house two indoor multi-purpose courts, the Student Health Center, classrooms, an aerobics area and entry rotunda. Administrative and support offices and a gym area featuring cardiovascular equipment, free weights and an indoor track are also planned. Courtesy of The Edmond Sun, October 4, 2001.
UCO students paint the town and state
A team of University of Central Oklahoma muralists gives new, very literal meaning to the expression "paint the town." In addition to work in Edmond, Bob Palmer, chairman of UCO's department of art and design, and various art students have literally painted towns across Oklahoma, and in doing so have preserved local history. Gov. Frank Keating recently appointed three Edmond residents to state boards and commissions. The appointments include:
James Palm – reappointed to the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board
Dawn Amundsen – appointed to the State Government Internet Applications Review Board (this is a new position)
Michael George – appointed to the Science and Technology Council (this is a new position, Senate confirmation is required)
