The Foundation was founded by Edith Kinney Gaylord in 1982. The grant will be used to establish the Edith Kinney Gaylord Endowed Chair of Journalism Ethics at UCO. UCO will apply to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for a matching grant, which will provide a total of $500,000 to fund the chair. Courtesy of The Journal Record, February 27, 2002.
UCO Jazz Lab taking shape
"If pizza were music, it would be like jazz," said Gary Gabrel, president of Hideaway Pizza. A couple years ago, Gabrel considered it a great coincidence that UCO's Jazz Department was looking for a home to feature their program while he was looking for a place in Edmond to house a new Hideaway Pizza. When developer Mark Neighbors donated land at South Littler and Fifth Street to the university through the UCO Foundation, UCO's President W. Roger Webb's dream to build a jazz lab and an evening performance venue began to unfold. Courtesy of Edmond Life & Leisure, February 28, 2002. Click here to read more.

Edmond is now a ‘Green City’
The Edmond City Council recently approved a plan to improve the city’s parks and trails system. Edmond City Council unanimously voted to pay $15,000 to the Trust for Public Land, a national land conservation trust that has a state office in Tulsa. This action makes Edmond the state’s first “Green City,” a program the trust offers nationally. Robert Gregory, state director for the trust, said his organization already has a pledge of another $15,000 from a private Oklahoma City foundation for Edmond’s project. Tinker Bond Issue On March 12th the voters of Oklahoma County will have the opportunity to vote on a bond issue that will protect the future of Tinker Air Force Base and hence the long-term economic vitality of Central Oklahoma. Tinker, the region’s largest single employer, has an $800 million payroll and provides high paying jobs to over 24,000 people. Tinker Air Force Base has a $2 billion impact on our local economy annually. If Central Oklahoma does not strongly support this bond issue, the upcoming Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC), scheduled to begin in 2005, could impact Tinker and its missions in a negative way.
The bond issue will address serious safety and security concerns identified by the 1993 and 1995 BRAC. Oklahoma City cannot allow any attempts to close or downsize Tinker. If passed, the county will be allowed to issue bonds not to exceed $50 million. If passed, the bond issue will cost the average homeowner less than $20 per year.
