Unanimous vote for election
On March 5th members’ of the Edmond School Board and the Oklahoma City School Board voted unanimously to bring the Arcadia Annexation issue to an election. On May 8, residents in the Arcadia area will vote to keep their students in Oklahoma City public schools or make the transition to attend Edmond or Luther schools. The division line stands at Anderson Road. If voters approve the issue, residents living in the 32-square miles west of Anderson Road would go to Edmond. Two Edmond-based companies receive statewide honor
Congratulations to Advanced Academics and Hadley Design. The Journal Record named both Edmond-based companies Innovator of the Year last week. Winners were selected from a statewide pool of nominations based on the year’s hottest new innovations. Advanced Academics was honored in the Technology/E-commerce category, while Hadley Design was awarded in the Manufacturing division. Fleming adds 40 jobs in OKC area
The Oklahoma City Shared Services Center of the Fleming Cos. is adding 40 new jobs to its area. The job departments expanding are mainly in the technology and accounting fields. Oklahoma favorably ranked in cost of doing business
Economy.com has published the seventh edition of the Economy.com North American Business Cost Review. In the study containing the cost to do business in each state, Oklahoma ranked in the most affordable cost category, and the Oklahoma City metro area ranked as one of the most affordable metropolitan areas of doing business. Restaurant Owner strives for personal touch
Tommy Byrd once again independently owns Tommy’s Italian-American Grill and Bellini’s Ristorante and Grill. Byrd recently purchased his three restaurants back from Oklahoma City-based Eateries, Inc. The two split when Eateries was unable to pursue and expand their Italian food concepts. Byrd now wants to gear his restaurants toward personal service and atmosphere for each guest. Oklahoma’s high-tech interest climbing-Edmond opportunities growing
A study conducted by AeA, formerly the American Electronics Association, in conjunction with the Nasdaq Stock Market, ranked the Oklahoma City metro area as one of the top 60 areas in the nation for high-tech employment. Dobson stays strong, NASDAQ falls
Dobson Communications, started eleven years ago from the landline division of the same company, is still going strong. The company’s opening stock came out at 22. Now it’s trading around 19 ½. During the freefall of NASDAQ, Dobson’s stock has risen almost 37 percent. Dobson Communications Corporation provides cellular services and products to business and residential customers doing business under the brand names Cellular One and Dobson Cellular. The 2001 Economic Abstract, published by the Edmond Economic Development Authority is now available online at www.eeda.com. Complete with the recently released 2000 U.S. Census numbers, the 2001 Economic Abstract covers Edmond’s growing population, income levels, and housing, as well as features on retail developments and technology job growth. New to this year’s Abstract is an entire spread on Edmond education, which highlights distinct points about the Edmond Public Schools, the University of Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Christian University. Edmond receives new director of engineering
Steven Manek starts Monday, March 19, as the new head of the city’s engineering department. Manek, a resident of Edmond since 1996, has been an engineering manager for the Oklahoma Transportation Authority. As the new engineering director, he will be joining the city staff in the planning process for the $85 million in capital improvement projects planned for the city. Boyt appointed dean of the UCO College of Business
Thomas E. Boyt, Ph.D. is the new dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Central Oklahoma. Boyt currently serves as associate professor and chair of the Department of Marketing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Boyt is no stranger to Oklahoma.
