Education & Training
Home to two major universities, the most honored public school system in Oklahoma, and a nationally recognized technology center, Edmond is a city rich with education and training.
The Edmond Public School System has experienced substantial growth over the past thirty-five years. From a 1970 population of about 4,000 students, they have grown to become Oklahoma's fourth largest public school district and now serve more than 22,000 students.
Edmond's schools are innovative and comprehensive, with gifted programs and special education services. In each of the city's elementary schools, a media center is provided, along with instructional specialists in music, art, physical education and gifted education. All three of Edmond's high schools were among the 2009 list of America's Best High Schools by Newsweek. Edmond's high schools provide a wide array of subjects beyond the required curriculum, including fine arts, business and vocational education, foreign languages, computer technology and professional internships.
Edmond is home to The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) and Oklahoma Christian University (OC) - the total combined enrollment of these four-year institutions is nearly 19,500 students. New physical developments and rigorous technology-based advancements are springing up at both UCO and OC.
