Edmond officials unveil new trolley system

Edmond officials unveiled one of two new trolleys last week in a special kickoff ceremony at the University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Lab. After more than a year of research and work, the Edmond Public Transportation Committee headed by Ward 4 City Councilman David Miller was on hand to celebrate what will be a new service that has added night and weekend hours to benefit those who depend on public transit. The two trolleys, which were designed as replicas of early American trolleys, were paid for with 83 percent federal funding and a 17 percent local match. Another grant is helping pay for the drivers, fuel and maintenance, Miller said. Courtesy of The Edmond Sun, February 27, 2004.

IT BYTES

Big science on a small scale
Nanotechnology is arguably the next big thing - but it's built on a very, very small scale. Once the stuff of scientific speculation or science fiction, nanotechnology is manufactured technology at the molecular level, and nanotechnology is being harnessed right here in Edmond, with very real applications on the horizon. NanoBioMagnetics, co-founded by Charles Seeney and Kenneth Dormer, of the department of physiology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, recently landed a contract from the U.S. Navy to explore ways to use nanotechnology to repair or prevent hearing loss in service personnel exposed to frequent loud noises.
