Title 22 - Edmond planners overhaul city zoning ordinances
City of Edmond officials are in the midst of a major undertaking in working to completely overhaul the city’s zoning ordinances. One of the primary reasons the city has decided to revisit its zoning ordinances is in response to the tremendous amount of residential and commercial growth that has transpired within the suburb over the past 20 years. Furthermore, because it has been many years since the city updated Title 22, city officials felt it was also important to revisit its ordinances in order to keep up with the changing nature of businesses in today’s marketplace. Title 22 is now in a 60-day public comment period until April 8. The Title 22 committee is asking for suggestions and comments in writing by the end of the comment period. Those interested in reviewing the draft of Title 22 may obtain a copy of it several ways. The document is available in a PDF file on the Web at www.edmondok.com or may be picked up on a CD-ROM at the Planning and Public Works Building, 20 S. Littler. The city also has paper copies available. For more information, call 359-4790. Courtesy of The Journal Record, March 18, 2004.

Disaster recovery seminar opens eyes - Are you prepared?
After viewing news reports on a company's devastation and destruction from a natural or intentional disaster, many people think to themselves, "That will never happen to me." Many of us think we are invincible to those situations, but reality set in after hearing the information and true stories discussed at the disaster recovery seminar held last month at the University of Central Oklahoma, co-sponsored by MIDCON and UCO. The seminar revealed an alarming number of companies may have been aware of the importance of a disaster plan, yet many had not taken the steps to put one together. An interactive workshop provided attendees the opportunity to create plan-of-actions for possible disaster scenarios. MIDCON Data Services LLC, a commercial records center, provides secure, climate controlled protection and management of records around the clock, an essential part of disaster recovery pre-planning. RETAIL DETAILS
Retail market improves
Oklahoma City’s retail real estate market continues to see improvement with overall vacancy having improved from 88.5 percent to 89.5 percent over the past six months according to the Oklahoma City Retail Market Summary prepared by Price Edwards & Co. The decrease in vacancy clearly indicated a healthy retail market in the metro area, as well as signifying an even stronger market for the remainder of 2004. Furthermore, Price Edwards officials noted that the north Oklahoma City, Moore/Norman and Edmond submarkets are the most healthy retail sectors in the metro area. Price Edwards & Company surveyed 21 shopping centers in Edmond with 2,097,500 square feet of space. Vacancy has dropped from the last survey’s 10.81% to 7.63%. In addition to the above shopping centers surveyed, there are 22 freestanding retailers in operation in Edmond with over 1.15 million square feet of space.
