Edmond company's small venture helps make big news in Boston

One Edmond-based small business made The Boston Globe's March 8 issue in an industry-related article about one of the world's smallest sciences, nanotechnology. Charles Seeney, NanoBioMagnetics Inc.'s CEO, was quoted in an article regarding his work in nanotechnology. The article featured the Nano Science and Technology Institute's seventh annual conference in Boston, NanoTech 2004, where NBMI co-founders, Seeney and Dr. Kenneth Dormer, gave presentations on their work in nanotechnology as it relates to health sciences. Mertens promoted at Eateries

Kristen Mertens has been promoted to director of marketing by Eateries Inc. A graduate of Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., she joined Eateries as senior marketing manager after serving The Richards Group in Dallas. In her new position, Mertens will manage the company’s media buying strategy, develop and coordinate corporate-wide sales building promotions, and direct sales incentive contests. She will also manage the company’s Secret Shopper, Guest Loyalty, and print advertising programs. Eateries, based in Edmond, owns, operates, franchises, and licenses 58 restaurants in 19 states under the names Garcia’s Mexican Restaurants, Garfield’s Restaurant and Pub and Pepperoni Grill. Couple gives $30 million to OC

Oklahoma Christian University recently announced a gift valued at almost $30 million from alumni H. Richard and Pat Lawson of Dallas. The gift is one of the largest single gifts ever made to the university. Richard Lawson co-founded Lawson Software Inc. in 1975, nine years after he graduated from Oklahoma Christian with a degree in computer science. He now serves as the company's chairman of the board. Pat Lawson has served both Lawson Software and numerous charitable causes since her graduation from Oklahoma Christian in 1967 with a degree in elementary education. City students get work knowledge in mentor program

Some Edmond high school seniors who are preparing for college are getting valuable work experience now thanks to a district-wide program. The Professional Internship Program provides high school students experience in a career field as an intern. By working with a professional in the field of his or her choice, a student is able to learn skills at advanced levels. “By becoming a mentor, business owners will have the opportunity to help educate and share knowledge and expertise,” said Linda Sloan, career guidance specialist for Edmond Public Schools. Downtown Edmond prepares for 'streetscaping' facelift

Downtown Edmond is getting ready for a new look. This summer, phase one of a multimillion dollar project gets under way to give the area new brick sidewalks, irrigation lines, trees, lighting and some new curbs. Dozens of businesses and literally, thousands of customers, will notice the improvements, said Edmond Public Works Director Clay Coldiron. Economic Development Partners

Economic Development Partners is set from 8 to 9 a.m. April 16 at the Edmond Economic Development Authority 825 E. 2nd Street. The Economic Development Partners Council is jointly operated by the Edmond Economic Development Authority and the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce. The Council meets the third Friday of each month to be updated on new developments in the business community. The meetings last an hour and involve a review of statistical data, recent business relocations and expansions and upcoming Edmond projects. Our speaker will be Glenn Hayes, Guthrie's City Manager. He will discuss the potential Guthrie/Edmond regional airport and specific improvements scheduled for the airport over the next five years. We hope you will make plans to attend!
