City Council approves enhancement package

Monday the Edmond City Council unanimously approved a set of economic enhancements the city will offer businesses who either develop or plan expansions here. The economic enhancements package includes two levels of support based on a company's investment in the community. To meet the criteria, a company must create primary jobs - not retail positions - with an average wage of $30,000 for salaried positions or $10 an hour for hourly employees. Or it must make a capital investment of $1.25 million or increase the load factor for Edmond Electric. If a business meets one or more of these criteria, then EEDA and the city will offer a two-tier set of enhancements including a one-stop permitting process at the city, a customized electric utility rate, the waiving of certain city fees and/or recruitment and training assistance for employees. The second level of enhancements includes infrastructure improvements such as traffic access management or water/sewer line extensions, a building to lease and/or land acquisition and improvement. These improvements are available to existing Edmond businesses ready to expand or to outside companies looking to locate in the city. Courtesy of The Edmond Sun, September 14, 2004
