EEDA Releases Five-Year Trend Report
The Edmond Economic Development Authority released a five-year statistical trend of retail sales tax collections in major retail categories. Total retail sales tax collections for the 2006-2007 fiscal year were $27,848,084 – up nearly 34% over the last five years. The Five-Year Statistical Trend report highlights eight major retail Standard Industrial Classification Codes: Lumber, Building Materials and Hardware; General Merchandise; Food Stores; Auto Dealers and Gas Stations; Apparel and Accessories Stores; Furniture, Home Furnishings, and Equipment; Eating and Drinking Places; and Miscellaneous Retail. Edmond is purchasing land to build future fire stations
Edmond City Council members voted this week to buy land near Kelly Avenue and Sorghum Mill Road to build a new fire station. Council members hope additional fire stations throughout Edmond will help reduce insurance rates or prevent insurance fee increases on residential and commercial property. UCO plans to build nontraditional classrooms
A new classroom building is being designed at the University of Oklahoma. The $10 million Center for Transformational Learning is scheduled to open August 2009. Edmond School District tops 20,000 student mark

The University Of Central Oklahoma begins its fourth annual Lessons in Leadership series, a program that provides UCO students and the Edmond community an opportunity to learn about leadership and career achievement from a series of speakers. National group selects Edmond educator
University of Central Oklahoma professor, Mary Monfort, recently served on the National Reading First Higher Education Consortium. Monfort serves as director of the UCO Reading Clinic and coordinator of the Master's in Education Reading program. Martin receives Oklahoma CareerTech's highest honor
Kay Martin is the 2007 recipient of the Francis Tuttle Career Excellence Award, the highest honor given by the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education. Fichtl to become CEO of Edmond Medical Center
Tayo Fichtl has been named chief executive officer of Edmond Medical Center and will begin his new post on Sept. 10. Fichtl is currently CEO of Texas Orthopedic Hospital in Houston. Both hospitals are in the HCA system. Fichtl has an MBA in Healthcare Administration from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona and also has degrees in psychology and marketing from the University of Arizona. Metro housing report shows good numbers for summer.
The metro housing report showed 1,848 home sales in July and 2,031 in June. Active listings in July were the highest for the year at 9,328.
