The Edmond Economic Development Authority's 2008 Economic Preview Book Launch and Luncheon is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 24 in Ballrooms B and C at the University of Central Oklahoma. Janet Yowell, executive director of the Edmond Economic Development Authority will give a glimpse of Edmond’s economy and an overview of the information compiled in the 2008 Economic Preview Book. Economic and real estate forecasts for Edmond and the surrounding area will be available in the 2008 Economic Preview Book which will launch at this annual event, sponsored by First Fidelity Bank. The pre-registration cost is $30 and includes the luncheon and the 2008 Economic Preview Book containing all presentations, data and reports collected from each expert. Edmond Commercial Construction up nearly 25 percent

Edmond has fewest violent crimes in state
According to Edmond police, FBI Uniform Crime Report shows Edmond had the fewest violent crimes in 2006 of any city in Oklahoma with a population over 19,000. Edmond had 1.2 violent crimes for every 1,000 residents. Broken Arrow and Norman had just over 2 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. Oklahoma City had just over 8 violent crimes per 1,000 residents while Lawton had over 10 and Tulsa almost 12.5.

UCO Professor receives 2007 Oklahoma Professor of the Year Award
University of Central Oklahoma economics professor Mickey Hepner recently was honored with the U.S. Professor of the Year program's 2007 Oklahoma Professor of the Year Award. The award is one of the most prestigious in honoring undergraduate professors. Oklahoma home prices up, bucking trend
Oklahoma is bucking a national trend of declining home prices, according to government data. Home prices increased 2.12 percent in Oklahoma in the July-September period compared with the previous quarter and were up 5.54 percent for the year, the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight said. Oklahoma ranked No. 12 in the nation in annual price appreciation. Nationwide, home prices dipped 0.4 percent in the third quarter, the first quarterly decline in 13 years.
