Outstanding business leaders recognized
The Edmond Economic Development Authority recently honored five Edmond businesses and business partners at the Seventh Annual Recognition of Achievement Luncheon last week. The EEDA holds this event each year to thank and recognize outstanding contributors to Edmond’s economic vitality. Janet Yowell, interim director of the EEDA and EEDA board of trustees hosted the event. Dr. Phil Lewis, dean of the College of Business at Oklahoma Christian University, was given the Economic Development Partner award. Francis Tuttle Technology Center was given the Strategic Partner award. UpTime, Ltd. received the Technology Achievement award. Brighter Days in Kickingbird Square received the Retail Business Award. The Trustee of the Year was Dave Wantland, a member of the EEDA board of trustees.

Avalon earnings rise 55 percent
Avalon Correctional Services recently announced a 55 percent increase in earnings for the third quarter. Net income for the quarter totaled $395,000, or 8 cents per share, up from $255,000, or 5 cents per share, for the third quarter of 2000. Revenues for the quarter were up 5 percent to $6.36 million from $6.08 million a year earlier. The developer and manager of privatized community correctional facilities reported net income for the first nine months of 2001 of $945,000, up 35 percent from $699,000 for the first nine months of 2000. Edmond Memorial senior knows his business
Kyle Conrad, an Edmond Memorial High School senior, discovered a burning passion for wakeboarding in 1997. This enthusiasm led to a desire to try something new in the wakeboarding market. Conrad's knowledge of business and computer programming, combined with a fervor for the sport allowed him to create an online magazine called an "e-zine" located at www.wakelounge.com. Newly Appointed Board Members

Damiani, Smith to serve on Arts & Humanities Council
New to the Arts & Humanities Council are Jim Damiani and James Smith. The purpose of the council is to promote arts and humanities in Edmond through special programs, by supporting other arts and humanities organizations, providing a resource for volunteers, and promoting a performing arts center in Edmond.Click here to read more.

Sparks appointed to Historic Preservation Trust Committee
Georgia Sparks was recently appointed to the Historic Preservation Trust Committee. The purpose of the committee is to renovate the building that was the first public schoolhouse in Oklahoma (Sander's Camera Shop) to be used for historical and educational purposes for the Edmond community. The Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce has “adopted” the 3rd Combat Communications Group (The 3rd Herd) at Tinker Air Force Base. The 3rd Herd provides deployable communications, computer systems, navigational aids, and air traffic control services anywhere in the world for Air Force, Department of Defense and other U.S. commitments, and are prepared to do so under hostile conditions. The 3rd Herd’s elements are self-sustaining during the initial phase of the expeditionary mission until relieved by follow-on forces and supplies.
